Self-Organizing and Complex Systems: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach

The talk series on Self-Organizing and Complex Systems will be held at the University of Vienna, Austria, October 2009 - January 2010. It follows the series of self-organizing systems of the University of Passau, Germany in 2006 and 2007 "Ringvorlesung" and aims at providing a multi-disciplinary, visionary forum for self-organization in computer science, networking, natural sciences, sociology, economics, biology, mathematics, philosophy, etc.

Organization

Dr. Karin Anna Hummel
University of Vienna, Austria
in cooperation with

Prof. Hermann de Meer
University of Passau, Germany

Self-organizing and complex systems occur in different domains and are scientifically investigated from different perspectives. Although the researched areas differ, the systems and models used to describe domain specific phenomena show similarities which may influence and inspire research. This lecture should cover important scientific domains dealing with self-organizing systems with a particular focus on mathematics, nature sciences, and technical sciences and application areas of technical sciences, like (behavioural) biology, medical science, social science, economics, to mention only a few. The lecture, initiated by the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Vienna, should attract vivid and inspiring national and international presentations as well as an audience of interested researchers and students of any disciplines. It is expected, that in particular advanced master and PhD students will benefit most from the lectures. The talk series are announced as a regular lecture at the University of Vienna (Guest Professor: Prof. Hermann de Meer, Prof. Helmut Hlavacs), 3 ECTS points. Students from any disciplines are welcome to attend the lecture. For the exam, please contact Dr. Hummel.
